Traditional Tree Is a Topper

The last steel beam for the Union National Bank building was hoisted into place shortly after noon Wednesday, and it was closely followed by the traditional topping tree, shown suspended in mid-air (arrow).  The ceremonies were attended by state officials including Miss Arkansas, and bank officials including Harlan Lane, and were accompanied by recordings of a band playing Sousa marches and the “1812 Overture” by Russian composer P.I. Tchaikovsky as the American flag was being hoisted to the top of the building on the final beam.  The tree was donated by Pickens-Bond Construction Company and purchased from the Optimist Club.
